REPORTS FROM PREVIOUS EVENTS

20th January 2012

What a lovely time we had at Holiday Inn Express, Oxford Rd, thanks to Jacki Beardmore and her colleagues. A big thank you too to Rachael Ireland at Tangerine PR for putting us all in touch and making Cherchez 20.01.2012 happen. It was a great start to the New Year.

On the day we were welcomed with tea, coffee, water and juice and then enjoyed tucking into a variety of delicious sandwiches and warm entrées. There was a great mix of ladies who are regular Cherchez-goers and some new faces too.

Jo Booth led the session by inviting members to volunteer marketing issues they were experiencing to the group. As a team everyone pulled together to make achievable suggestions and resolve the issues. The energy levels and support offered were very encouraging. The talk was informal and comfortable, each person offering their own techniques and advice. It provoked some very interesting questions and conversation.

In the business card draw, Sylvia Gautier won a complimentary night’s stay (including breakfast) at the hotel and Caroline Cowan walked away with a bottle of fizz for the weekend. Overall we had a great networking session and a lovely support network is developing which we hope will continue at future Cherchez meetings.

“Enjoyable, friendly and very welcoming”

“Good location, good size group with potential for referrals”

“Brilliant afternoon of networking and lunch! Great group of women - good fun and very useful!”

“Very nice and informal”

“I really enjoyed today’s event. Delegates come from different backgrounds which is great. Well organised and thanks for the gluten free meal!”

14th October - Tiger Tiger

What a fantastic time we had at Tiger Tiger, thanks to Natalie Brindle and her colleagues. We were welcomed with tea, coffee, water and juice and then enjoyed tucking into delicious warm and cold sandwiches and some wonderful potato wedges with dips. There was a great mix of ladies who are regular Cherchez-goers and many new faces too.

Sue Worthington hooked up her laptop to the large TV screen to talk to us about using social media as a method of communicating your business message in a very effective way. She listed the DOs and DON’Ts when using facilities such as Twitter and Linked-In and her talk produced some interesting questions and conversation.

In the business card draw, Jo Jeager-Booth won a meal for two with drinks courtesy of our host Tiger tiger and Sue Worthington walked away with a voucher for a free delegate place at our Christmas Event which will take place at G Casino on 9th December.

Natalie and her team at Tiger Tiger have put together a list of special offers for Cherchez Ladies spanning every day / night of the week. Click here to get a copy of the fantastic deals on offer.

16th September - Royal Exchange Theatre

Friday 16th September saw Cherchez Manchester get back into the swing of things after a well deserved summer break. However you would have been forgiven for thinking that there hadn’t been a break at all with the September event at the Royal Exchange Theatre starting with such momentum! Jane Saxon welcomed us into the awe-inspiring building on St Ann’s Square and our delegates enjoyed dining and networking in the spacious and airy ‘front room’ with great views of the square to one side and the beautiful theatre interior on the other. As this event marked the 1st birthday of Cherchez Manchester, it would also been a crying shame not to have any cake, so a chocolatey treat was a welcome addition to lunch time! After a buzzing hour or so of informal networking, delegates were lucky enough to parttake in a mini workshop hosted by Mary Murtagh, journalist and PR expert, who shared some practical, useful and proven tips about getting your business into the media spotlight. Bethan Philips brought along a piece she had got into her local press that week as a direct result of following Mary’s tips and advice after seeing her present at our South Cheshire meeting earlier in the month.

Of the Manchester event itself, Cara Nuttall of Pannone commented: ‘Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed the event on Friday! Hoping I can make the one in October. I thought Mary’s talk was great too.’

And as if that wasn’t enough, the business cards draw saw Helen Connor win lunch for two at ‘The Round’ - the Royal Exchange Theatre’s new restaurant, Rachel Dumont-Baber win a free place at a future Cherchez lunch, and Ria Ashcroft win a bottle of rose for the weekend!

Manchester - 10th June 2011

Cherchez Manchester June saw a welcome return to the Abbey Business Centre on Fountain Street which has just been bought out by the Regus group. Karen Bray was on hand to keep us abreast of the changes and give us a low down on the many services that they offer from the hire of meeting rooms to fully serviced office spaces at the prestigious address. Our delegates enjoyed a cosy chat with plentiful coffee and tea along with sandwiches and a delicious fresh fruit platter from Deli Fresh. Conversation ranged from the pros and cons of working from home, our experiences with marketing and the benefits of networking. The event ended with Cara Nuttall winning a free place at another Cherchez networking lunch of her choice and Helen Jones starting the weekend with a bottle of chilled vintage cava! Not bad eh? Why not join us next time - and it could be YOU!

Manchester - 13th May 2011

Wigs Up North, a hidden gem in Royal Mills, was our slightly unconventional venue for our May Manchester Cherchez event. As we networked amongst the masses of make up that reflected every colour of the spectrum, Vicky and Jackie, owners of the enterprise, let us into some trade secrets and shared their journey from city basement to their plans for a larger shop and training academy. Wigs has won several awards for it’s work on stage and screen and is one of the only places outside of London offering such choice, flexibility and expertise. Everyone really enjoyed exploring the Aladdin’s cave whilst meeting new contacts and simultaneously nibbling on sandwiches and chocolate biscuits. The thoroughly enjoyable afternoon ended with a business card draw that saw Carla Baumgardt win a goody bag of makeup worth £40 courtesy of Wigs Up North, Sue Southern bag a free place at an up-and-coming Cherchez lunch and Vicky Holmes leaving for the weekend with a bottle of bubbly.

Here’s what Sue had to say in her feedback - “I enjoyed what they had to say and found them inspiring. Made me think further afield. Already onto a new project due to visit.

Manchester - 15th April 2011

The Place Apartment Hotel on Ducie Street was our venue for our April Manchester event which provided a perfect backdrop for relaxed networking, a spot of lunch and some Easter treats. With the tropical surroundings, including two huge trees literally growing through the airy hotel atrium, along with the running water feature, you could be forgiven for thinking you were on your holidays!

The laid back atmosphere was perfect for our inspiring and informative spotlight given by Caroline Pollitt of Serenity. Caroline led a useful session about goal setting for business with the emphasis on strategies for sticking to your goals and being able to achieve them. All delegates agreed that this was powerful information that we could use to achieve our true potential both inside and outside of our businesses. Delegates commented on an atmosphere of warmth and positivity and the friendly nature of our interested and interesting attendees.

Some fantastic prizes were up for grabs as always with Fiona Cutts bagging a session with Caroline Pollitt of Serenity, Brenda Gough receiving a home made eater cake, Linda Curtis winning a free place at another Cherchez lunch and Tamara Bell starting the weekend in style by leaving with a bottle of pink bubbly!

Manchester - 11th February 2011

Our February event was kindly hosted by the Manchester Conference Centre - a fantastically apt venue for relaxed networking on a Friday afternoon. Delegates enjoyed a plentiful buffet courtesy of MCC and Valentines-inspired cup cakes and biscuits hand-made by the lovely Sarah Batten. Compliments were received from the wide variety of women in business which included seasoned Cherchez members and new faces. Not only did our delegates benefit from making contacts with other accomplished ladies but four women walked away with prizes too!

Janice Mills won a delicious home-made cake, Linda Curtis was happy to receive a bottle of pink bubbly, Tamsin Fielden has gained a free place at another Cherchez event and Bridget Batty won the grand prize of an overnight stay at the MCC hotel for two, including breakfast and dinner! Shame you missed it but no doubt we’ll back at the MCC later this year so watch this space….

Manchester - 14th January 2011

We had an unbelievable start to the New Year with a great event hosted by GL14 Health Club on Chepstow Street. The staff were brilliant, the surroundings were really comfortable and the networking was - of course - very fruitful!

We had many comments about the lovely fresh sandwiches and fruit platter provided by Louise Yates from Deli Fresh on York Street. Louise opened Deli Fresh in Manchester based on the success she and her partner already enjoy in the Lowry Outlet Mall with the first Deli Fresh and also their juice and smoothie bar, Squeeze. Why not pay Louise a visit? You can download a Deli Fresh menu right here.

We were also treated to some lovely cakes courtesy of Alex Thomas who has just launched her own business, Tortabella.

The business card draw was amazing - and never-ending! Top prize went to Louise Yates who was able to choose from three superb offers direct from GL14. Caroline Pollitt won the voucher kindly donated by Cathie Stone from the Brookdale Clinic for a Punpkin Facial Re-surfacing treatment. It was a great first event for Faria Khan who walked away with the bottle of bubbly and Kate Greville - another first-timer - won a free place for a future event.

All in all we had a great day and the feedback received has been as warm and positive as it always is. So thank you!

Cherchez Manchester - 9th December 2010

A number of new faces once again joined us for this final event before the Christmas break at the fabulous City of Manchester Stadium. We had plenty of time to network in a very relaxed atmosphere before taking time out to see a couple of the more popular hospitality venues but we were unable to go right down to the pitch-side as a junior league game was in progress. Here are some of group on their way around the stadium.

Sarah wowed us all once again with a goodie bag for each of the ladies containing a festive muffin and iced cinnamon biscuits - all home-baked and delicious! We also had a bumper business card draw with the star prize of a table for two at City’s Valentine’s Ball going to Lianne Johnston from Crowne Plaza Manchester - Congratulations! The bottle of fizz went to Janette Higginson, Sarah’s home-made Yule Log to Tricia Gibbs and a free place for a future Cherchez event to Emma Willshire.

Here’s what some of the ladies had to say about their experience……….

My first event. Enjoyable. Got the opportunity to demo my wares. Be interesting to see how it goes! Joining Today.”

“Another great event. Made some good contacts and a lovely venue.”

“Fabulous venue - really chilled out, informal networking.”

“Excellent - recommended by colleague and great opportunity to meet new contacts.”

“Really enjoyed as usual, nice meeting and talking to new people.”

Cherchez Manchester - 12th November 2010

We had a great turnout for our last Manchester Event which was kindly hosted by Peninsula Business Services. There were plenty of new faces again which is great news and the feedback we have received is really encouraging - see some examples below.

We were treated to an informative and enjoyable presentation from Amanda Chadwick who is a dedicated Peninsula Speaker and an expert in Employment Law and Health & Safety. She certainly created a buzz around the room and provoked some interesting conversations amongst the delegates. Here she is (in her killer heels!) giving us all some food for thought. Amanda regularly delivers a longer seminar on the subject and Cherchez hopes to put something together with her in the Spring.

Our business card was as popular as ever with new-comers Lianne Johnston from the Crowne Plaza Hotel taking the free place at a future event, and Tracey Richley from WPA taking the bottle of fizz. Joanne Beamish from Lloyd Piggott was probably the most popular colleague in Manchester on Friday afternoon, having won Sarah’s latest delicious home made cake. I bet afternoon tea in their office was something to behold!

OUR NEXT EVENT IN MANCHESTER will be at the City of Manchester Stadium on Thursday 9th December, from 12 noon till 2.00 pm in Carlos Tevez’s very own Executive Box. Places are limited to 20 for this event and we already have some bookings. If you’re still not sure what you’re missing out on, read some of the comments below from last week…………
